Windows 10 refuses to give way to Windows 11
After months of very slight increase, the specialized site Statcounter already revealed last November a drop in Windows 11's market share. Such a drop so many months after the initial release was already not a good sign at all. But, in December, rather than stopping, it continued, allowing Windows 10 to maintain its large lead.
In detail, from November to December 2024 Windows 11 lost 0.84 points, dropping to 34.1% market share. The transfer is to Windows 10 (+0.9 points), which now dominates at 62.73%. To simplify, out of two PCs equipped with Windows, two still use Windows 10, an OS which dates from 2015, and one uses Windows 11 (2021).
It remains to be seen in October 2025 how these figures will evolve. Remember that on this date Windows 10 will no longer be supported. Enough to encourage users who can to finally migrate to the unloved Windows 11, provided they respect Microsoft's restrictive hardware restrictions.
Browsers: Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome still dominate
At the same time, Statcounter also revealed its browser statistics. First of all, we will note that despite the numerous incentives to use another solution, and the bad publicity which is regularly devoted to it, Google Chrome seems unstoppable from first place. The latter largely dominates with a 66.88% market share (+0.5 points in December 2024).
Behind, Microsoft Edge comes second at 13.21% (+0.34 points). The Redmond firm can certainly thank its methods for imposing its solution on its Windows 11 PCs, sometimes despite the wishes of users. Finally, far behind come Apple Safari at 8.49% (-0.64 points), Mozilla Firefox at 6.14% (-0.3 points) and Opera at 2.74% (-0.07 points). 2024 will certainly not have been the year of plurality on the browser side. Maybe the resale of Chrome and the arrival of several alternative research solutions in 2025 will change the situation.
