CES 2025 – LG renews its Xboom range of portable speakers, with bonus headphones
Live from CES 2025, LG presented in detail its new portable audio products from the Xboom range. Like the South Korean manufacturer let us hear it a few weeks agothis series was entirely designed in collaboration with the artist will.i.am.
Far from being simple updates of previous generations, each product in this range features a unique sound architecture and a new design. The series includes the Xboom Rock miniature speaker, the Xboom Stage 301 party speaker, as well as the Xboom Grab and Xboom Bounce portable speakers. LG has also decided to include a pair of true wireless headphones called Xboom Buds.
In addition to a revisited Xboom stamp and a similar all-terrain design, these products would benefit from a common sound signature. Furthermore, in order to enhance the sound experience tenfold, the majority of speakers can be connected to each other via Auracast audio sharing technology.
This renewal is also an opportunity for LG to introduce new technologies based on artificial intelligence. AI Sound automatically adjusts the tone of the speaker according to the type of content being played, while AI Calibration adapts the sound according to acoustic constraints (indoor, outdoor, etc.). AI Lighting technology is also included to allow a new multi-colored light bar to react to the rhythm of the music.
Finally, each model includes a button allowing the user to access the RAiDiO.FYI platform developed by will.i.am.
Xboom Rock: an all-terrain miniature speaker
Resembling the Xboom Go like two drops of water, the Xboom Rock is the smallest Bluetooth speaker in this new range. It would offer impressive sound for its size thanks to a 3.8 cm full-range speaker accompanied by a passive radiator. Dynamic Bass Optimizer technology would also be there to reinforce the impact of the bass.
Designed to face wind and tides, it benefits from IP67 certification giving it total protection against dust and allowing it to be immersed in water for 30 minutes. Its battery life of 10 hours is unchanged compared to the Xboom Go.
Xboom Grab: easy handling and generous battery life
An intermediate model among LG's new speakers, the Xboom Grab is characterized by an ultra-portable design and an all-terrain design. It is distinguished by an acoustic grille in non-slip fabric and reinforcements making it easier to hold. Like the small Xboom Rock, it also benefits from IP67 certification giving it increased protection against water and dirt.
According to LG, the Xboom Grab delivers “powerful and clear” thanks to a pair of speakers powered by 30 watts amplification. In terms of autonomy, the brand mentions an impressive lifespan of more than 20 hours.
Xboom Bounce: vertical passive radiators and careful acoustic design
The most high-end portable speaker in the series, the Xboom Bounce stands out with its visible, upward-facing passive radiators. Despite its more imposing size and a more serious acoustic design than its little sisters Rock and Grab, it still benefits from great robustness thanks to IP67 certification. Also equipped with a deployable strap, it can be easily carried outdoors.
As for the audio components, LG simply mentions a power of 40 watts, without mentioning the speakers. The Xboom Bounce promises up to 30 hours of battery life.
Xboom Stage 301: a compact and portable party speaker
The Xboom Stage 301 party speaker stands out first of all with a design never before seen by LG and the competition. It can be placed in two different positions, frontally or slightly leaned back, like a professional stage speaker. Furthermore, the Xboom Stage 301 would offer particularly powerful sound and could be used on the move thanks to a large handle and a battery life of 11 hours. Equipped with a simple IP54 certification, however, you should not plan to use it in the rain.
Like most party speakers, it allows you to improvise a concert thanks to microphone and guitar inputs. The control interface is also quite extensive, with the possibility of adjusting the light effects and accessing an EQ.
Xboom Buds: small ergonomic wireless headphones
The icing on the cake is that LG has decided to add a pair of true wireless noise-cancelling headphones to its Xboom range this year. These small intras would firstly improve the sound performance of previous iterations of the brand thanks to exclusive graphene transducers. The shape of the part placed inside the ear canal has also been refined for greater comfort, while small wings promoting support have been added to the top of the shells. The Xboom Buds also have a very pleasant handling experience, in particular thanks to completely silent opening/closing of the case.
Provided Bluetooth connectivity would also be included, with multipoint support, compatibility with Auracast audio sharing technology, and a quick connection system with LG Grams computers. Finally, the Xboom Buds benefit from IPX4 certification and promise up to 10 hours of battery life with noise reduction activated.
