Forget current AI, OpenAI aims for “artificial superintelligence”. In a blog post, Sam Altman, who recently called Elon Musk a “tyrant”explains that his teams have gained a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms necessary to create AGI.
OpenAI develops the “artificial superintelligence”
This is a turning point for OpenAI, founded nine years ago as a nonprofit research lab. It was not until November 2022 that the company really emerged with the launch of ChatGPT to the general public.
There “artificial superintelligence”according to Sam Altman, could revolutionize scientific research and innovation by surpassing human capabilities. However, the leader of OpenAI remains discreet on the precise timetable. But the first signs of this technology will be felt in the coming years.
Still according to Sam Altman, the “artificial superintelligence” will equip AI agents who will join the job market from this year 2025, no less. They will be in charge of complex tasks that require a certain level of AGI, a technology that has not yet been unveiled by OpenAI.
“We like our current products, but we are aiming for a more ambitious future”says Sam Altman. “With superintelligence, anything is possible. Superintelligent tools could dramatically accelerate scientific discovery and innovation, far beyond our current capabilities, thereby massively increasing abundance and prosperity.”
Obviously, Sam Altman suspects that his words are somewhat science fiction. Despite everything, the director of OpenAI believes that his company will achieve this “artificial superintelligence” in the years to come. But specifies in passing that it will be necessary to act with caution in the development of this technology while allowing as many people as possible to benefit from its benefits.
At the same time, OpenAI continues to develop its models, notably GPT-5 which would have a doctoral levelcalled “Orion” internally. The company also announced the o3 series which promises to be more secure and ethical, just like o1. The launch of this new model is planned for this year 2025.
