Admit that the approach is difficult to take seriously: you pay a large fine to many consumers for a particular problem, then you argue that the problem in question does not exist. Apple had already mentioned it shortly after announced to pay the fine of 95 million dollars : “Apple has consistently denied and continues to deny any alleged wrongdoing and liability“. But which prevails? Actions or words? Today, Apple intends to drown the fish with new words.

Siri doesn't listen to you (according to Apple)

So, is Apple using Siri to listen to you (or even spy on you) to resell your data to third parties in order (in particular) to target you more precisely for advertisements? It's a firm no from Apple, which stated in its press release: “Siri was designed from the ground up to protect user privacy. Siri data has never been used to create marketing profiles and has never been sold to anyone for any reason. Apple settled this case to avoid additional litigation and to turn the page on concerns about third-party review, which we previously addressed in 2019. We use data from Siri to improve the Assistant, and we are constantly developing technologies to make Siri even more respectful of privacy“.

Note that no real evidence has been provided to support this theory that Siri serves as a spy to eavesdrop on consumers in order to then deliver targeted advertisements to them. However, agreeing to compromise for the benefit of consumers in the class action for 95 million in parallel can be considered an admission of guilt. Despite everything, the legal procedure had already been going on for more than 5 years, so Apple potentially wanted to avoid seeing it be dragged out even further. But then, why did you apologize for listening to users in 2019 ? The advantage of this situation is that it will have allowed the American firm to take new, more serious and less opaque provisions concerning the protection of private lifestarting in 2019.
