CES 2025 — Apply makeup in seconds thanks to mixed reality
What if Instagram and TikTok filters became a reality? This year, at CES in Las Vegas, visitors can apply makeup in just a few seconds and change it as many times as they want. How does it work? THE “Mixed Reality Makeup 0 Min Try-On Studio” is an innovation that allows you to try on virtual makeup by projecting the rendering directly onto the face. It is based on a mixed reality system — high-speed projection mapping.
Concretely, a video projector projects the makeup on the person's face, while cameras and lenses capture the face and its contours to adapt the rendering in real time. The innovation is capable of tracking facial expressions precisely to provide a fluid and natural rendering.
Developed by two Japanese companies – KOSÉ Corporation and Tokyo Electron Device Limited – the device is designed to facilitate makeup testing and the purchase of cosmetics. With it, users can quickly realize the potential of the product or test makeup
For the moment, the Japanese have already been named winners of the CES Innovation Awards 2025 in the XR Technologies & Accessories category.
