Samsung's news is not entirely in the world of connected watches, the South Korean taking advantage of CES in Las Vegas to present its new products in the television department (including its Frame Pro) and preparing a Galaxy Unpacked dedicated to its smartphones on January 22. But that does not prevent him from working on the evolution of his smartwatcheswhich should soon benefit from a new functionality bringing together its different universes. A “Pointer Mode” function would allow Galaxy watches to be transformed into remote controls using movement to control Samsung television screens.

The feature was initially spotted by Android Authoritywho set about analyzing the code of the SmartThings application (reserved for controlling Samsung connected objects) for Wear OS, in version 1.3.129. There is mention of this Pointer Mode, accompanied by various instructions allowing you to understand how it works: activation by shaking the watch, “pinch to select” mode, clench your fist to go back, squeeze it twice to return to Home or use your wrist to control the on-screen cursor. Gestures which are reminiscent of the commands usable with Apple's Vision Pro headset – which should also find their counterpart with the headset under Android XR from Samsung, currently known as Project Moohan.

SamMobile for its part had the opportunity to see the Pointer Mode option in action as part of CES 2025, through a Samsung television demonstrator. Suffice to say that we can hope for a deployment of this function at launch of the brand's new TV rangewithin a few months.
