Two years after its first season, the HBO series once again promises to offer an inspired and quality adaptation of the famous Naughty Dog video game. Release date, story, casting, images… Here's everything you need to know about season 2 of The Last of Us.

The story of season 2

If the series has repeatedly proven its ability to move away from the original material and offer an astonishing adaptation, fans of the video game know that this season 2 promises to be particularly brutal and eventful.

The official synopsis of this season 2 indicates that “Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie find themselves in conflict with each other and in a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

The relationship between Joel and Ellie should have evolved significantly, as the duo found refuge in the town of Jackson. But an event will push Ellie to undertake a risky adventure across the United States and in particular in Seattle. His path will cross that of survivors grouped into strange communities, and of course infected people who are more formidable than ever.

Who is in charge of this season 2?

We take the same ones and start again! After the express renewal of the series – only 2 weeks after its start of broadcast – the co-creators Neil Druckmann (writer of the original game) and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) are back to pilot this second season.

A logical mark of confidence on the part of HBO, especially after the very positive reception of their work on the first season, winner of 8 Emmy Awards. The duo was joined in writing by Halley Gross, who penned episodes of the series Westworld And Bansheebut above all co-writer of the game The Last of Us II with Druckmann.

The second season is expected to deal with themes of revenge, contrasting with that of unconditional love from the first season. Neil Druckmann said it was “a continuation of the love from the first season, but that's just the dark side of this play”.

In addition to the return of the production team – Mazin, Druckmann, Carolyn Strauss, Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Rose Lam – from season 1, this new chapter can also count on a nice group of directors for its episodes.

Among them, we note the return of Peter Hoar (Doctor Who) and Nina Lopez-Corrado already present on season 1, and the arrival of Kate Herron (Loki), Mark Mylod (The Menu), Stephen Williams (Watchmen). Druckmann and Mazin also direct episodes.
