CES 2025 — Ecovacs X5 Hybrid: how to vacuum with a robot, an explosive concept

With the X5 Hybrid, Ecovacs offers a new kind of robot vacuum cleaner. If the X5 Hybrid is a classic robot to say the least, it is designed with a new accessory: a handle to hang on the hood of the vacuum cleaner. In this “manual” mode, the robot then obeys the user's movements, as a conventional stick vacuum cleaner can do.

Concretely, the handle clips onto the back of the robot. Controls located on the handle turn the X5 Hybrid on and off and govern the suction mode, just like any other vacuum cleaner. This mode then no longer leaves the robot any choice, which obeys the user's comings and goings.

Having taken it in hand, it must be said that the movements are relatively fluid, but this configuration remains astonishing. A 2-in-1 device with a real stick vacuum cleaner – like the T30s Combo Complete – seems a better alternative.

Either. Once cleaning is done, the handle can be stored in the Ecovacs docking station. The latter also accommodates a 3.2 L dust container to relieve the robot of swallowed debris; a multi-cyclonic filtration system is installed there. However, no water tray is installed in the station since the robot does not support this functionality.

The station consists of a bagless dust bin.

But to ensure the suction function, the X5 Hybrid adopts a D shape, like the X2 Omni. Ecovacs defends this choice by claiming that it is the best silhouette for cleaning in corners. The robot also benefits from 15,800 Pa of suction – which is less than the 22,000 Pa of the just announced Roborock Saros 10.

In addition, the X5 Hybrid uses TrueMapping 2.0 technology from Ecovacs, to correctly map its environment. For this, it can also count on its laser rangefinder and various sensors installed on its hood.

No release date has been announced for the X5 Hybrid, let alone for the French market.
