Samsung expected to launch its three-part foldable model this year
Last year, Huawei unveiled its Huawei Mate XTa foldable model in three different parts (therefore foldable in two), for a very high price of 20,000 yuan (or around 2500 euros). This is the first foldable smartphone taking this form, Huawei thus ahead of Samsung in its preferred field. But for its part, the South Korean firm has not remained idle: it has already been working for a while on a similar model, and even if the latter will be behind the direct competition, it should surrender available in 2025.
Samsung launches into a new segment to compete with Huawei
So, the South Korean site SisaJournal addressed the issue this week. According to him, the design of Samsung's three-fold smartphone should be different: if the Huawei Mate smartphone will fold inwards. So, when the device is folded, none of the three segments of the internal screen will be exposed to the outside, unlike the Huawei Mate XT. In return, Samsung will have to offer a fourth external screen to compensate.
On the production and price side, Samsung seems to be a little conservative: the Huawei Mate According to the SisaJournal report, a total of 300,000 models were produced, no more. These fairly low production numbers potentially imply that Samsung might not release it worldwide, but only in South Korea, as was the case for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold SE for example. Furthermore, price-wise, this model could well be more expensive than the Huawei Mate XT (at €2,500): “the product will have three display panels, two internal hinges and two external hinges. Additionally, the associated hardware technology will be improved, making this model much more expensive than current foldable phones” we can read in the report of the South Korean publication. The model would potentially be ready for marketing during the year 2025.
