Samsung The Premiere 5: Samsung’s “affordable” ultra short throw video projector is finally here
Samsung's The Premiere 5 was announced at CES 2024 last year, alongside the more imposing The Premiere 7 and 9. Despite the excitement it had generated, it had not yet been officially unveiled and it we had to wait until CES 2025 to find out more.
This model therefore completes the Korean manufacturer's catalog with a proposition that is not only more affordable than its big brothers (which are sold for more than €2,500 or even €3,000), but also much more compact. We retain the tri-laser technology at the level of the light source, but we will have to make do with a Full HD definition (1920 x 1080) and a diagonal of 100 inches maximum. The brightness is announced at just over 500 lumens and everything obviously works under Tizen OS, Samsung's in-house interface.
A touch screen for fun?
As a bonus, a support is provided with the video projector so that it can be used horizontally, like a touch screen on a desk. You can thus connect your smartphone or tablet and project a mirror image of the device in question. A fairly gimmicky feature that will nevertheless appeal to children who can use it to draw or play mobile games.
If we appreciate the compact design of the product and Samsung's desire to offer not only a compact ultra short throw model (a fairly rare format on the market), you will still have to pay a tidy sum to get your hands on above. The Premiere 5 will be sold for around $1900, a price that will be difficult to pass for Full HD definition with competitors offering UHD 4K for less than €2000 or even €1500…
