Thin and light for a 17-inch versatile laptop Asus VivoBook 17 S1704ZA-AU252W with a battery life of 7 hours suitable for certain students equipped with an anti-glare Full HD IPS panel is efficient in everyday use, light multimedia processing and modest gaming thanks to its hybrid Intel Alder Lake Core i7-1255U processor with Iris Xe graphics and its 16 GB of RAM. But also its fast 512 GB SSD storage which reinforces its responsiveness. This relatively thin and light elegant silver Windows 11 Ultrabook is also equipped with a USB-C connection and a webcam shutter.

The Asus VivoBook 17 S1704ZA-AU252W faces the competition

Chassis, connections, screen of the Asus VivoBook 17 S1704ZA-AU252W

With its thin and light light silver design in a comfortable format that can be opened 180° completely flat, certified to the American military robustness standard MIL-STD-810H, this versatile laptop PC which can be recharged to 60% in 49 minutes features a elegant and discreet look.

This laptop is equipped with a USB-C connection, its practical HDMI video output to easily connect this PC to a TV or a monitor for example, its audio port or even its 3 USBs compatible with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 , USB 3.0 ensuring transfers up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if USB 3.0 devices are connected to it.
Wireless connectivity, however, disappoints since there are Wi-Fi 5 ac and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless modules for remote connections and communications, Wi-Fi 6 ax being more recent and efficient.

Another disappointment: a priori the keyboard does not have a key backlighting solution.

The webcam can be covered by a shutter when not in use to protect privacy, a nice feature.

The screen is suitable for High Definition content such as videos thanks to its Full HD definition and its 16:9 format.
Its anti-reflective treatment also makes it more readable than a shiny panel in a bright environment (e.g. outdoors) and less tiring for the eyes in the long run, while its viewing angles, both horizontal and vertical, are significant thanks to its IPS technology. Too bad this one is not high-end: the colorimetry is therefore classic.

Performance, battery life of the Asus VivoBook 17 S1704ZA-AU252W

The Asus VivoBook 17 S1704ZA-AU252W is a large format laptop designed for everyday multipurpose use.

Despite its large, comfortable format, it is not the most nomadic by nature, it is relatively thin and its weight is contained. As a result, it can still be transported without too much hassle. Some looking for a Student laptop of 17 inches may therefore be interested, knowing that its autonomy is around 7 hours on battery in light use.

Obviously, to consume as little energy as possible while ensuring good responsiveness, the storage is here entrusted to an SSD.
As a reminder, an SSD consumes less energy than a hard drive while being more robust, quiet and much faster.

The SSD notably provides faster starts/stops, processing and launches of applications than a hard drive or even faster arrival on online game cards.

Be careful though: as no dedicated graphics card is on board, demanding gamers will move on. On the other hand, this versatile laptop may interest those who are content with light to modest games or watching photos and HD videos.

How ? Thanks to the services of the Iris Xe graphics solution. It is directly inserted into the processor, an Intel Alder Lake-U with 10 hybrid cores. This is the low-consumption Core i7-1255U, coupled here with 16 GB of RAM.

Many users will appreciate that this core delivers very good performance in everyday use, including for small multimedia processing taking advantage of the multicore and RAM, such as light video encoding or photo editing.

And the storage capacity? The SSD offers 512 GB, equivalent to the standard for hard drives and what many laptops on the market offer.
However, if you need additional space, you can expand the capacity using an external storage device, preferably USB 3.0/USB-C to benefit from fast transfers.
