A new label is emerging in the technology sector. Taking the form of a shield which can be red, black or green, it consists of an index of protection against cyberattacks. Called “US Cyber Trust Mark”, which literally translates as “Digital Trust Index”, its mission is to indicate that the data on a device is secure, that updates and patches can be made. made when a flaw is discovered.

Find out about the “hackability” of a device

The explosion in the number of devices connected to the Internet in homes encourages cyberattacks by providing new entry points for hackers. If Internet service providers (ISPs) are generally conscientious when it comes to cybersecurity, this is not necessarily the case for certain manufacturers of seemingly harmless objects. This is the case for certain wifi repeaters which are factory configured with an identical password, which is supposed to be modified subsequently by the purchaser of the device.

Dangerous objects if hacked also include connected toys for children, baby monitors, connected speakers, video surveillance systems, etc.

Next to the shield-shaped logo will be a QR code: this will allow manufacturers to provide more information on the safety of their product. This “hackability” index label will not be mandatory and will operate on a voluntary basis for manufacturers. The creation of the US Cyber Trust Mark, however, is part of a framework of transparency towards consumers and could ultimately influence the choice of one device or another.
