CES 2025 – Sony unveils XYN, a hardware and software solution for creating spatial content
CES 2025 is mainly an opportunity for manufacturers to unveil products intended for the general public. But some, like XYN by Sony, should especially be of interest to professionals looking for a tool to create spatialized content. Behind this name, which is pronounced “zin”, hides an integrated solution combining hardware and software to capture images in real life and then combine them and transform them into virtual images.
XYN: hardware, but also software
XYN firstly relies on various imaging, detection, algorithm and display technologies from Sony. The system can capture objects, scenery or even the movements of people via sensors and then recreate them in virtual environments. The objective is to produce 3D synthetic images, notably via the new XYN Motion Studio application. Enough to interest the film, video game, animation and industrial design industries.
An all-in-one solution for (wealthy?) creators
Who says spatialized content says, beyond 3D compatible screens, headphones. XYN thus integrates a mixed reality (XR) headset. This promises OLED displays with 4K resolution for each eye, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip at its heart. Controllable with your hands or dedicated controllers, this headset integrates cameras to easily alternate between virtual reality and reality.
Sony's solution, which wishes to attract as many creators as possible, promises to be compatible with “many third-party tools”. Many details are still unknown regarding XYN, visible at the Las Vegas show, starting with its prices and options or even its marketing date.
