Omi: the new AI-boosted accessory that sticks to the head

While Rabbit R1 and theHumane AI Pin have clearly made a mistake by wanting to introduce artificial intelligence through a new accessory, projects of this type do not budge. We have just discovered the existence of a new project called Omi, also wishing to integrate AI into our daily lives.

Developed by the American company Based Hardware, this product adopts a new round format, with dimensions close to that of an AirTag. We thus have a circumference reminiscent of that of a €2 coin, with an obviously greater thickness.

Atypically, Omi can be placed on the temple, in addition to attaching to clothing or worn as a pendant. Capturing surrounding noises in real time, it allows, thanks to theAI get answers to questions, deliver transcripts of meetings, conversations or voice memos, send emails and schedule events in a calendar. It also integrates with more than 250 applications to increase its capabilities tenfold.

An open-source project, it has the advantage of being able to be configured to hear only your voice or all those present in a room. Second good news, the data is encrypted and can be deleted at any time via the iOS or Android application. In the near future, Based Hardware wants to go further with Omi by allowing it to read the brain of its user. More specifically, the company is counting on the launch of a brain-computer interface for the second quarter of 2025.

The Omi is currently available for pre-order on the website omi.me at a price of $89, with deliveries beginning in the second quarter of this year. Please note, it is clearly specified that no monthly subscription will be offered to take advantage of the device's AI capabilities. A lesson that seems to have been learned following the failure of the Human AI Pin and its $24 per month subscription.
