Are you using the Canal+ application on an old Samsung television? Bad news arrives
As previously announced by the Canal+ group, on January 31, owners of Samsung televisions marketed before 2018 will no longer be able to benefit from the Canal+/myCanal application. The reason behind the withdrawal of the app advanced by Canal+ is simple: “technical obsolescence” which prevents maintaining support for an app which has evolved a lot in recent years.
“Technical obsolescence” which will affect many users
However, alternative solutions exist to continue to benefit from Canal+ content for subscribers. Apart from buying a more recent Samsung TV, however, since the 2024 models are not compatible with the Canal+ application…
If your ISP offers it, like Free, it is possible that the Canal+ application is directly available on your box. Likewise, it remains possible to use the app via a third-party device, such as a multimedia box or a mobile device. The web version of Canal+ is also a possibility, via a computer connected to the television for example.
Canal also indicates that contacting customer service at 0801 907 601 allows you to receive compatible reception equipment at no additional cost. The equipment in question is not specified, but the solution may allow you to avoid spending money in your wallet so you can continue to enjoy Canal+.
If you don't remember when you bought your Samsung TV, you will need to identify your model. To do this, head to the serial number. IF it starts with QE, refer to the 5th letter from the end. If the serial number begins with EU, it is the 5th letter from the beginning that interests you. If that letter is an M, K, J, or H, it's a TV from 2017 or older, and you're affected.
