CES 2025 – Petal: the small camera to monitor birds and insects at home
The manufacturer Bird Buddy has been offering birdhouses for 3 years now, but, for this CES, what made us melt was “Petal”. These small cameras – reminding us of a flower – are designed to discreetly film birds, snakes and insects that may wander past. They can integrate into any ecosystem to capture daily life. Indeed, Petals plant themselves in the ground, cling to a tree or attach themselves to a nest box or a hive, for example. His goal: to capture scenes of life from an often overlooked world.
The Petal camera can be attached wherever we want.
In addition to that, thanks to artificial intelligence, cameras can also recognize the species filmed. Birds, snakes, insects: everything goes there. It is then possible to know what is going on at home, without interfering with the ecosystem.
Different more or less magnifying lenses can be attached to the camera, depending on what you want to film. An application allows you to collect the captured images and create slow motion or download photos to your phone. Different statistics are also available on the application; for example, it is possible to know how many times a titmouse has come to feed, for example.
A solar panel can be attached to the camera to give it better autonomy.
This is just a prototype at present. However, we would like to see it commercialized. Tech puts itself at the service of nature and the curious without interfering in its proper functioning, and that's quite pleasant!
