Two Ring cameras go 2K after a simple software update

Good news for owners of Spotlight Cam Pro and Floodlight Cam Pro. Ring has announced the arrival of an important, free update for these two outdoor surveillance cameras. They will gain not new features, but better image quality or at least the possibility of filming in 2K. Like the other cameras in Ring's catalog, they were until now limited to 1080p HD, and therefore become its first 2K models.

The update normally began to be deployed on January 8 and the manufacturer indicates that it will be enough to select the new image definition in the application once it is installed. Nothing more. This is obviously very surprising since the arrival of this update implies that the cameras concerned are equipped with sensors of at least 4 Mpx that Ring had chosen to under-exploit until now, even though its competitors offer for the most of 2K for several years. Perhaps he had other constraints on the cloud side?

Let us remember, however, that the definition is not solely responsible for image quality. We will therefore not fail to return these Ring cameras to our laboratory after updating. In the meantime, we can also wonder if the third Pro-branded camera in the Ring catalog will also be able to upgrade to 2K, namely the Stick Up Cam Pro.
