Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5: the low-cost smartwatch always thinks bigger
THE Redmi Note 14 from Xiaomi intend to provide the best possible value for money in the world of telephony, and they are not alone: on the watch side, the Redmi Watch 5 hopes to seduce with a careful technical sheet, and accompanied by a very affordable price.
Xiaomi equips its watch with a large screen: the Redmi Watch 4 benefited from a 1.97 inch display, and its heir goes to 2.07 inches. It also benefits from a brightness increased to 1500 cd/m², far beyond the 600 cd/m² of the Watch 4. Despite everything, the case of the smartwatch is not larger (it takes the dimensions of 47.5 x 41.1 mm), which refined edges allow. The body of the device, therefore rectangular, is however a little thicker, since it measures 11.3 mm (10.5 mm for the Redmi Watch 4), and it remains waterproof to 5 ATM. We note that the bracelets of the 2024 model are compatible with that of 2025.
Behind this large screen hide classic sensors. Enough to measure heart rate and blood oxygen level for its health component, Bluetooth 5.3 for connectivity and GPS for monitoring outdoor activities. It is possible to make calls from the watch, since it incorporates a dual microphone, but also to record voice notes from the watch. Xiaomi also promises improved accuracy in both heart rate and sleep quality.
The Redmi Watch 5 is thicker than its predecessor, but this allows it to integrate a slightly higher capacity battery, i.e. 550 mAh instead of 470 mAh. Which allows Xiaomi to announce up to 24 days of use, four days more than the Watch 4. You guessed it, there is no question here of integrating the Wear OS operating system , which results in much lower endurance scores, but rather to rely on proprietary software, compatible with Android terminals as well as iPhones. For this Redmi Watch 5, available from January 15, count on a price of €119, with a €20 reduction for its launch, until January 29.
