What if the Cupertino company's entry-level connected watch got a cheaper redesign? According to Mark Gurman of Bloombergthe Apple Watch SE would be equipped with plastic instead of aluminum in 2025.

Plastic instead of aluminum?

The Apple Watch SE of 2025 would have a plastic case instead of aluminum according to the journalist in his newsletter Power On. The Californian company would seek to reduce production costs to potentially integrate more recent and expensive components without increasing the bill for consumers.

Currently, the price positioning of the Apple Watch SE is $249 in the United States to directly compete with the Galaxy Watch FE at $200 from Samsung. Let us recall that the Galaxy Watch6with its premium features, costs just $50 more than Apple's entry-level Watch.

However, the use of plastic raises questions about durability and build quality. The scratches would be less visible than on a painted metal surface but the resistance of the case remains to be proven. But the use of this material would allow a more varied color palette, as for the iPhone 5c.

Under the hood, the 2025 Apple Watch SE would feature a newer processor. But nothing indicates that the entry-level watch will be entitled to a larger screen, a more efficient battery or a thinner profile.

The same goes for the functionalities: the electrocardiogram (ECG) would remain new to high-end models. Blood pressure measurement would not be there either, but the Apple Watch SE would benefit from new health technologies without Mark Gurman sharing more on this subject.
