iPhone 17 Pro: Apple plans two new photo sensors for 2025
2025 is preparing to welcome the iPhone SE 4 at the start of the year, a greatly updated version of the iPhone SE 3. However, real developments for the range of Apple smartphones would wait a few more months, and more precisely the back to school with the iPhone 17.
In addition to the iPhone 17 Air which would play the finesse card, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max would also promise great developments. The photo part was also talked about on January 10 through the informant Digital Chat Station.
Through a publication on the Chinese social network Weibo, the latter affirmed that two new sensors would be there. First of all, the ultra wide angle would go from 12 to 48 Mpx. Apple would thus complete its increase in definition after the 48 Mpx main sensor in 2022 with the iPhone 14 Pro, then the 48 Mpx ultra wide-angle in 2024 with the iPhone 16 Pro.
The details in the images captured from the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max with the telephoto lens, and therefore the optical zoom, should thus be greatly enriched with information, in particular thanks to the technology of “pixel binning”.
In addition to this development for the rear photo module, the front camera would also benefit from an evolution in size. As assumed by analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu in 2024, the arrival of a 24 Mpx sensor instead of the traditional 12 Mpx is also predicted by Digital Chat Station. In addition to this increase in quality, we would go from five to six lenses on this lens, thus limiting distortions.
Note, previous rumors did not speak of an exclusivity for the Pro models with this 24 Mpx selfie sensor. Indeed, the iPhone 17 and 17 Air would also be equipped with it, making it a common novelty for the entire range (like the new button on the iPhone 16).
