DJI Flip: vloggers are still spoiled
While we regularly salute DJI's efforts in monitoring and updating its drones, the Chinese firm never ceases to surprise with the announcement of a new compact drone with an astonishing concept. Weighing less than 249g, the Flip features foldable and comprehensive propeller guards, ensuring ultra-safe and reliable flight. Photographers will be able to capture impressive 48 MP photos and 4K videos at the press of a button. The Flip is fully equipped with comprehensive, permanently installed protection, ensuring safe browsing for all users. Made from lightweight and strong carbon fiber, the protector structure weighs only 1/60 of the weight of traditional polycarbonate protectors, while maintaining the same rigidity and durability, ensuring safe flights.
With or without radio control
As we had previously seen and tested with Neo, the Flip takes off with a simple press of the mode button and selecting the desired shooting mode. It immediately goes into operating mode as soon as it is unfolded. The Flip is equipped with an optical block equipped with a 1/1.3 Dual Native ISO Fusion CMOS sensor with an aperture of f/1.7 and pixels of 2.4 μm capable of producing photos of 48 Mpx and 4K/60 fps HDR videos. The 4:3 aspect ratio CMOS sensor provides ample space for vertical crops while maintaining 2.7k resolution, optimized for smartphone viewing and social media without the need for cropping.
AI now omnipresent in DJI drones
The Neo's artificial intelligence algorithms ensure precise tracking of the subject in the frame. Like the Neo, the Flip takes advantage of DJI drone users' familiar QuickShots modes featuring six intelligent shooting modes offering a range of different shooting angles including Dronie, Circle, Rocket, Spotlight, Helix and Boomerang . These modes can be used either directly by simply pressing the Flip mode button or via the DJI Fly application. The new addition of course includes DJI's intelligent shooting features:
• MasterShots:
This feature allows you to automatically perform various camera movements, film multiple clips, and edit them with music, cuts, and effects for quick, streamlined cinematic sequences.
• Hyperlapse:
Four options, including Free, Circle, Course Lock and Waypoint, to capture timelapse footage up to 4K horizontal or 2.7K vertical.
FocusTrack:
Subject tracking with FocusTrack including ActiveTrack 4.0, Spotlight 2.0 and Point of Interest 3.0.
• Panorama:
Supports 180° panoramic, wide-angle, vertical and spherical shots.
The small Flip can be used with the RC-N3 or RC 2 radio controls. A Wi-Fi connection with a smartphone allows you to control the Flip using virtual joysticks on the DJI Fly application interface . It will be able to capture audio and intelligently reduce noise, automatically filtering propeller noise. Designed to be used without an additional radio control, it can also be paired with the DJI Fly application and even controlled by voice (in English… ). DJI promises a flight time of up to 31 minutes with the Intelligent Flight Battery. The parallel charging station included with Fly More kits can charge four batteries with simultaneous charging of two batteries. Currently being evaluated by the editorial staff, the Flip will of course be subject to a complete and in-depth test.
