The PlayStation 6 is emerging: new AMD chip and key innovations, for 2027

With more than 65 million PS5 elapsed since 2020 and the recent release of the PS5 Proin November 2024, Sony has nothing to envy of the competition. However, speculation about a possible PlayStation 6, planned for 2027, is already present and arouses curiosity for the next big step in the world of consoles.

Processor, graphics chip, 3D V-Cache: the PS6 would have some surprises in store

According to a recent leak from reliable industry sources, Sony's future console will be equipped with an SoC (System on Chip) new generation, signed AMD, and should logically integrate significant improvements.

This information comes from the forum NeoGAFwhere noted tipster KeplerL2 shared details about the project's progress. According to him, the design of the SoC intended for the PlayStation 6 would be “ finalized », and the chip is currently in the validation phase before its launch into production, scheduled for the end of the year. Concretely, this means that the technological heart of the console is practically ready and that the ongoing tests will validate its functionality.

But one of the most significant developments would concern the graphics chip. The PlayStation 6 is expected to use a GPU derived from AMD's Gfx13 architecture, now known as UDNA, likely engraved in 3nm and compatible with GDDR7 memory. Although the exact size of the GPU has not been specified, it is reasonable to assume that it will be a mid-range model, true to the tradition of PlayStation consoles.

Another interesting element: the integration of 3D V-Cache technology in the CPU, introduced by AMD with processors like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in 2022. This technology stacks layers of cache on the processor, increasing total capacity and providing performance gains, especially in gaming.

If the rumors are confirmed, the PlayStation 6 would arrive in two years, or seven years after the PS5, respecting Sony's usual rhythm for its consoles.
