Employees will refuel their electric cars for free

Do you drive electric and take your car to get to work? Good news for you. Thanks to a tax exemption on the costs of using electric cars, your employer will be able to allow you to recharge your vehicle for free at your workplace.
A change of direction from the government
If you haven't been following, this is a change of heart from the government. Last November, we announced to you that the government was considering eliminating this aid. Finally, the executive opted for a decision favorable to electric motorists, in line with France's commitments for the energy transition.
The measure, which is applicable from this year, concerns company cars and employee mileage allowances. Its aim is obviously to encourage the French to go electric, while only 17% of registrations in 2024 concerned this type of car.
Concretely, what does this change for you?
For employees, this exemption means that workplace charging stations can be used at no additional cost and without tax impact. On the employer side, this approach is encouraged, because it will not be counted as a benefit in kind. In other words, no social or tax levies will increase the bill for businesses.
This system is not limited to employees with a company car. It also concerns those who use their personal vehicle for professional journeys, via an increase in mileage allowances for electric cars. The objective is clear: reduce dependence on fossil fuels, ease pressure on the purchasing power of the French, and above all, respond to environmental challenges.
Electric, a choice that remains complicated
Despite this boost, the switch to electric remains fraught with pitfalls for many motorists. The high acquisition cost, the limited autonomy of certain models, and the low density of charging infrastructure in rural areas are still hampering its massive adoption. Consumer associations therefore hope that this measure will be accompanied by new aid for the purchase of electric vehicles and for the installation of terminals in condominiums or individual houses.
