According to The Informationinfluencers would be offered huge sums of between $10,000 and $50,000 per month to post their content on Instagram Reels before TikTok and other platforms. Meta remains silent in the face of these revelations when contacted by the media.
It seems that Meta wants to take advantage of the possible ban on TikTok in the United States while the social network was restored after 12 hours of blocking. This is not a first for the company, which now favors “free speech”. Previously, the social network offered the Reels Play bonus program which was suddenly discontinued.
The end of this program left many influencers in a difficult situation as some relied on this monthly income. Nothing indicates that Meta's new strategy to counter TikTok will be more sustainable.
For several days, Instagram has been doing its utmost to compete with TikTok, in particular by imposing a rectangular format to favor Reels. Mark Zuckerberg launched Edits, a video editing application which is none other than a copy of CapCut, TikTok's flagship tool. As for the duration of Reels, it has been extended to three minutes.
The situation is also complicated for Meta in the face of the departure of many influencers and other creators, reluctant in the face of Mark Zuckerberg's political orientation in favor of Donald Trump. Removal of fact-checking for Community Notes, relaxation of the moderation of hate speech, abandonment of diversity programs… So many new measures that the leader of Meta defended for three hours on Joe Rogan's microphone.
