The arrival of a MacBook Air with Oled screen, initially expected for 2027is now pushed back to 2029, according to a report published by The Elec. This Korean media, often well informed about the screen industry and Apple's suppliers, explains this delay by disappointing sales of iPad Pros equipped with Oled. Although these screens offer perfect blacks and appreciable image quality, they have not generated the expected commercial enthusiasm.

Apple would thus have reviewed its priorities. Rather than accelerating the adoption of Oled on products like the MacBook Air, the company seems to want to optimize its strategy, while taking into account the high cost of this technology.

Oxide TFT: a step forward while waiting for Oled

In the meantime, everything is not set in stone. From 2027, the MacBook Air will benefit from LCD screens using “Oxide TFT” technology. This innovation, already present on MacBook Pro since 2022will offer more faithful colors, better contrast and reduced energy consumption. Although this does not replace Oled, it is an appreciable development. We know in particular that the images displayed gain in fidelity, making the screen ideal for tasks requiring precise colors, such as photo editing or graphic design. And while Oled remains unrivaled in this area, Oxide TFT pushes LCD screens to deliver deeper blacks and brighter whites.

For MacBook Pros, Oled screens remain planned for 2026, confirming that Apple continues to rely on this technology for its high-end models. But for the MacBook Airmore general public, the brand seems to want to procrastinate, the time to ensure that Oled justifies its cost and its adoption.
