Nvidia created a surprise by presenting the GeForce RTX 5090 with a footprint of only two PCI slots. A tour de force from the designer of the Blackwell chip, especially since the announced consumption is up with 575 W.
As we have seen, the manufacturer has completely revised its cooling system in order to cope with the increase in consumption. The two fans are now on the same side and the GPU sits in the center of the card. The fans blow directly on the radiators which evacuate the hot air upwards.
Only 4.1 cm thick
To get an idea of the work done by Nvidia, here are our photos of the GeForce RTX 5090 compared to previous models: the GeForce RTX 3090 and RTX 4090.

So, if the GeForce RTX 5090 is thinner at 4.1 cm thick, it is exactly the same length as the GeForce RTX 4090. The GeForce RTX 3090 remains the longest of the RTX xx90 Founder Editions at 31.2 cm .
The GeForce RTX 4090, for its part, retains the title of the thickest Founder Edition with 6.1 cm, or 7 mm more than the GeForce RTX 3090 and 2 cm more than the GeForce RTX 5090.

It is the GeForce RTX 4090 which is still the heaviest Founder Edition of the three at 2.19 kg, while the GeForce RTX 5090 does not exceed 1.82 kg. It's the PCIe port on our motherboards that will be happy!
GeForce RTX 5090 tests imminent
We will now have to wait for our test to know the performance of Nvidia's new cooling system, as well as the performance of the GeForce RTX 5090 compared to previous generations.
