When Samsung's Galaxy S25s offer Google's new AI features at the same time as its Pixels

Samsung and Google, an association that continues. The two giants, one in telephony, the other in software (and mobiles, with the help of its Pixel range), show the solidity of their partnership. Because if the event of the day is none other than the South Korean Galaxy Unpacked, dedicated to its Galaxy S25, S25+ And S25 UltraGoogle appears in the preamble to the conference to discuss the future of its AI assistant, Gemini. And to announce that he “There will be much more to discover with Android and Samsung in the months to come”

In 2024, the Galaxy S24 inaugurated one of the specific features of Google-style AI: Circle to Search, or “Surround to search” in the language of Molière. The idea was then to circle any type of element displayed on the screen to launch a search for it. This now goes further, and aims to be able to draw on these elements to better recommend contextual actions. This involves, for example, offering to make a call when a telephone number is displayed on the screen. We also find summaries by AI (AI Overviewonly in English) offering the user a precise description of the elements on the screen. If Samsung says nothing about it, we suspect that these are temporary exclusives reserved for it, and that these functions will be accessible within a few months from other manufacturers.

The Galaxy S25s served (almost) at the same time as the Pixel 9s

To this present of Circle to Search is added that of a “cross-app” operation of Gemini. Because the assistant is now able, thanks to an extension currently exclusive to Samsung, to draw from two applications for a single request: in addition to Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube or Message, it can access Samsung Calendar, Clock , Reminders and Notes. However, we imagine that other manufacturers will work hand in hand with Google to follow in the footsteps of the South Korean within a few months. Also note the teasing of a future where, Google explains, it will be possible to search videos in real time within Gemini Live, Mountain View's conversational assistant. The user will be able to share a screen to enrich voice exchanges; improvements that we owe to Astra project, announced in 2024and which will also arrive on the Pixel 9. For now, it is possible to add images, files and videos in Gemini Live: the function arrives today on Google's Pixel 9 series, at the same time as on the Galaxy S25.

Note that Gemini Live is already immediately accessible on the Galaxy S25, and that the three smartphones come with a free six-month subscription to Gemini Advanced.
