Windows 11 24H2: the update now available for computers running Windows 10
Microsoft is beginning the large-scale rollout of the 24H2 version of Windows 11, which can now be installed on eligible computers running Windows 10. This update, also known as Windows 11 2024 Update, enters its general distribution phase today, after a soft launch.
Windows 11 2024 is rolling out on a large scale, but still with its restrictions
To upgrade, devices must meet certain requirements: an 8th generation Intel Core processor or equivalent, at least 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, and a DirectX 12 compatible graphics card or later . A screen with a minimum resolution of 720p and the presence of the TPM 2.0 module are also necessary to ensure optimal security.
Interested parties can check its availability by accessing Settings > Windows Updatethen clicking on Check for updates. If their device is compatible, the option to download and install the 24H2 version will appear.
Although this update is now widely rolled out, it remains optional. Microsoft emphasizes that Windows 11 is “free for a limited time”but users can choose to keep Windows 10. However, some computers may encounter difficulties related to technical errors, such as conflicts on certain Asus models, audio issues or even problems with the Auto HDR functionality. Also remember that the end of support for Windows 10 is scheduled for October 14, 2025. From this date, Microsoft will no longer offer security updates.
For the Home and Pro editions of versions 23H2 and 22H2, installation is now done automaticallyunless the device is managed by an IT administrator. In this case, the user can choose when to reboot or postpone the installation.
Another notable change is the lifting of the block that prevented some Ubisoft players from upgrading to this version, after technical problems encountered on several games, such as Star Wars Outlaws.
