Android 16 could offer a new display of notifications on the lock screen

Android 16 may not be just around the corner, but its release could arrive within a few months, a little faster than usual. A beta could even arrive within a few days. A fact which should only slightly upset users, many of whom are still waiting for Android 15, but that is not the subject of the day.

While waiting for Android 16, the exploration of the successive betas of Android 15 QPR2 continues and reveals what could well happen within Android 16. This time, Android Authority seems to have found a new option around the display of notifications on the lock screen.

An option to let the lock screen (and the user) breathe

In the third beta of Android 15 QPR2, the minimalist notification display feature on the lock screen has been replaced by a so-called “Compact” option. This compact display sits alongside a “full list” display, i.e. the current default display for notifications, which should remain the one selected by default.

If checked, the compact display will visibly group all the notifications on the lock screen into a small dot, just under the time. Currently, Android's options in this area simply allow you to show everything, hide everything, or only show sensitive content when the device is unlocked.

In addition, options are included to more precisely manage the display or not of notifications displayed on the lock screen. It is thus possible to hide previously viewed notifications and silent notifications (including conversations). In short, Google is working on a set of new features designed to improve Android notification managementwho really needs it.
