In January 2024, Samsung had established itself as one of the pioneers of artificial intelligence with Galaxy AI, its own vision, released well in advance of the competition (Apple Intelligence has still not arrived in France). To accompany its new Samsung Galaxy S25Samsung intends to drive the point home with many new features linked to AI, presented during its Galaxy Unpacked on January 22. Here are 5 major ones that we imagine will be used by a lot of people in the coming year (or even beyond). Note that many other functions were announced by Samsung during yesterday evening.
Gemini plays a leading role
Project Astra
Project Astra allows users to open their phone's camera and ask questions in real time about what the viewfinder is capturing. In essence, it is an improved version of Google Lens, which interacts with the user in real time. Likewise, users can share their screen with Project Astra to receive interactive and direct assistance with what appears on their screen. This feature will first be available on Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S25, before becoming available on all Gemini apps.
Automation within everyone's reach
If there are actions that you are used to performing on a regular basis, the Routines function takes inspiration from them to automate them every day, and thus allow you to no longer have to do these daily tasks on your own. The feature uses Galaxy AI to analyze your usage and suggest new automation methods. For example, if you have the habit of putting your smartphone in night mode every evening and turning it off in the morning, Galaxy AI can suggest you automate the process.
Now Brief
Now Brief is Samsung's way of personalizing your usage to the fullest: this feature actually acts as a contextual hub, offering personalized updates based on the time of day. In the morning, for example, it can display the weather forecast, health data like a sleep score pulled from a Galaxy Watch, and a summary of the day's planned events.
Gemini Live is getting better
Gemini Live can now play images, files or even youtube videos when you add them to a conversation. So, if you want to get help with the content of a PDF file for example, you will no longer need to copy and paste the text of the file into Gemini Live: share the file in question directly. This new dimension added to Gemini Live will first be available on certain Android smartphones. For now, this is only the Galaxy S24 and S25.
Circle to Search gets a welcome update
Circle to Search improves drastically
Instead of just showing a list of search results, Circle to Search will now offer an AI-generated summary with relevant information. The purpose of these summaries is to provide more context for these visual searches (such as identifying certain places, objects or certain images). Separately, Google has added one-click actions to Circle to Search for phone numbers, email addresses, and URLs, which should improve the feature's effectiveness by allowing users to call, Send an email or visit a website with a single tap. Note that this function will be available on all Android smartphones that support the function (not just Galaxy S25s or Google Pixels).
