TTArtisan AF 23mm F1.8: a new standard in Fujifilm X mount
The Chinese compatible lens manufacturer TTArtisan continues to develop its range of AF (autofocus) lenses for Fujifilm X-mount hybrids. A few weeks ago, we discovered theAF 35mm F1.8 II and we also find an AF 56 mm F1.8 in the range. Today, we discover a slightly wider fixed focal length: an AF 23 mm F1.8.

This lens covers the APS-C sensor format and is therefore equivalent to 34.5mm if we use a conversion coefficient of 1.5x. It is therefore the standard wide focal length par excellence, the perfect tool for reporting and street photography. Its bright maximum aperture F1.8 combined with a 9-blade diaphragm allows you to play with bokeh and depth of field and also offers great possibilities in low light conditions (at night or indoors for example)!

The lens benefits from a 100% metal construction (aviation quality aluminum). It is not protected against the weather and does not have a manual diaphragm adjustment ring. It is relatively compact and lightweight with a weight of 210 grams. We do not know its exact length, but it should be between that of 35 mm and that of 56 mm.

For autofocus, there is an STM motorization which supports eye and face recognition offered on Fujifilm hybrids. Note that it is possible to update the lens firmware via its rear cap equipped with connectors and a USB-C socket. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 30 cm for close-up photography.

On the optical formula side, we find a construction of 11 elements divided into 9 groups with 1 glass with a high refractive index and 2 glasses with low dispersion.

First opinion
With its new AF 23mm F1.8, TTArtisan continues to develop a range of bright prime lenses for Fujifilm mirrorless users. These lenses are very affordable compared to the native Fujifilm models and are therefore positioned as a very interesting solution for trying the world of fixed focal length. By comparison, Fujifilm offers 2 23mm models: the XF23mmF1.4 R LM WR priced around 950 euros, the XF23mmF2 R WR offered around 450 euros. There is also the Sigma 23mm F1.4 DC DN which is available for around 550 euros. Finally, we can also count on other Chinese compatible lens manufacturers such as Sirui with its Sniper 23mm F1.2 priced around 390 euros or Viltrox with its AF 23mm F1.4 priced around 350 euros.
