Supergirl: James Gunn reveals a first image of the future DCU film

DC Studios' Supergirl movie is filming.

DC Studios boss James Gunn celebrated the start of filming on the film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow on his social networks by sharing a first image of Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) in the guise of Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El.

As Gunn noted, it's director Craig Gillespie (Me, Tonya, Cruella) who is directing this Supergirland the filming of the film has just started at Warner Bros. Studios. in Leavesden, a suburb of London.

Alcock, who can be seen from behind in the image below, plays Kara Zor-El in an adventure inspired by Tom King's comic book, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowpublished in 2022.

“Craig brings incredible sensitivity to this story, and Milly is exactly the unique Supergirl imagined by Tom King, Bilquis Evely and Ana Nogueira,” Gunn wrote.

Evely illustrated King's work while Nogueira was responsible for adapting the story for the DCU film. In the comics, the antagonist of the Kryptonian heroine is a certain Krem of the Ocher Hills. He is responsible for the death of Ruthye's father, an alien who became Kara's friend.

In Gillespie's film, Matthias Schoenaerts (Of rust and bone) plays the role of Krem, and Eve Ridley (The 3-body problem) plays Ruthye. We also know that Jason Momoa is also starring in the role of Lobo and that David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) and Emily Beecham (1899) play Kara's parents, Zor-El and Alura.

The image shared by Gunn also gives a glimpse of the Supergirl logo, which appears to be in the same style as the “S” used by Superman in the next movie dedicated to him and expected in theaters next July.

For now, the details around the scenario of this Supergirl are kept secret but there is no doubt that with the start of filming of the feature film, more and more information will be revealed in the months to come.

At any rate, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled to hit theaters on June 24, 2026.
