At CES in Las Vegas, the manufacturer Hisense was talked about with him with him its new 116 -inch UX116 televisions. Not only by the impressive size of these TVs (the largest in the world at present), but also because they enjoy a new mini-LED backlight technology called RGB Local Dimming.
To summarize it simply, rather than using a white backlight and affixing a filter to reproduce the colors we see on the screen, the RGB Mini-LED is directly composed of color LEDs. There are several advantages with this technology: better coverage of colorimetric spaces, a potentially higher light peak, reduction in blooming and better black reproduction on the screen.

TCL also presented a TV equipped with a RGB Mini-LED technology which was present on its stand at CES, but there remains a concept for the moment. The Chinese manufacturer could in any case market such models at the end of the year or in 2026.
RGB micro-LED, what is this deception?
At Samsung, we were also able to see a TV in the prototype state and the approach is similar, but with slabs made up of smaller LEDs than usual, so that the manufacturer speaks of RGB micro- technology LED. The famous micro-LED that we have been talking about for years? The technology of the future which promises an exceptional image quality, but which still costs 800 to 1000 € per thumb? Well no, since the name RGB micro-LED proposed by Samsung refers well to a mini-LED backlit, so LCD! As a reminder, the “real” micro-LED is made up of self-emissive subpixels and it issues infinite contrasts.

RGB micro-LED or RGB mini-LED technology remains interesting, but this lexical entoune is clearly might befall everyone, and to cause harm to consumers. Samsung is not on its first try to try to stand out from the competition with its share of confusion at the key. We note that many consumers still confuse Qled and Oled for example, although the two technologies have absolutely nothing to do …
The term RGB micro-LED does not seem to be final for the moment, and we therefore hope that the manufacturer will choose a more appropriate expression. See you in a few months to find out more!
