Very solid when it comes to autonomy, e-ink screens however have weak points when compared to traditional screens. In addition to their display generally limited to grayscale, their refresh rate is low. But the Chinese manufacturer Dasung has decided to remedy this. Here is the Dasung Paperlike 103, a 10.3-inch (239 x 195 x 5 mm) touchscreen capable of displaying content in 1872 x 1404 pixels at 60 Hz.
Dasung expands its range
Two months ago, the manufacturer already unveiled a comparative video between a classic LCD screen at 60 Hz and its Paperlike HD (Revolutionary) screen at 40 Hz. Enough to already realize the very close rendering in terms of fluidity between the e-ink screen and LCD. We can therefore only imagine the result with a 60 Hz screen. Imagination also remains relevant for the energy consumption of such a solution, necessarily higher than that of a more reasonable e-ink screen.
Physical buttons on one side of the aluminum frame allow you to control the brightness and the integrated front lighting of the solution. A folding kickstand is also included to hold the screen, while the display color temperature is adjustable to ease the eyes.

A still unclear use
It now remains to know the concrete benefit of such a solution. If video playback remains quite limited due to black and white, we can imagine much more fluid navigation within documents or an interface from a device connected to the screen.
The Dasung Paperlike 103 is currently only available in China, priced at 1,999 yen excluding taxes (around €260). It remains to be seen whether the product will cross the country's borders, and at what price.
