iOS 18.3 is available: Apple muscle safety and refine its AI, what innovations?
Available today, iOS 18.3 improves security and introduces innovative functions such as management of IA notifications and advanced visual recognition tools. Here are the news and how to install it.
Here, a glance, the main new features of the 18.3 update:
- Apple Intelligence activated by default: From now on, Apple AI is automatically activated during the initial configuration of the device. Remember that that Apple Intelligence is not yet available in France yet.
- Visual Intelligence improvements: iPhone 16 benefit from the recognition of plants and animals, as well as the possibility of creating events in the calendar by scanning posters.
- Management of notifications summaries: The notifications summarized by AI now appear in italics for easy identification. It is possible to deactivate these summaries directly from the locked screen or the notification center.
- Return of a calculator's functionality: the possibility of repeating the last operation by pressing the “equal” key is reintroduced.
- Security corrections: iOS 18.3 Corrects 29 vulnerabilities, thus strengthening the protection of devices against possible threats.
Better supervise artificial intelligence
Apple Intelligence, already at the heart of recent models, has been debated in recent months. For what ? Certain notifications summarized by the AI were simply false. One of them announced, for example, the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, when it was only an international mandate.
To avoid this kind of confusion, iOS 18.3 introduces a visual benchmark: notifications summarized by IA now appear in italics. A discreet, but crucial detail to better discern the raw information from the summary generated by the algorithm. And for those who prefer to avoid any risk, an option makes it possible to deactivate these summaries via the settings.
The return of a darling functionality
In a lighter register, the update signals the return of an emblematic function of the calculator. From now on, the app makes it possible to repeat an operation by pressing the “equal” key. Practical, intuitive and frankly satisfactory, this option lacked many people.
Reinforced security
On the security side, iOS 18.3 does not do in half measures. No less than 29 vulnerabilities have been corrected, including one actively exploited. This fault, identified as CVE-2025-24085, allowed malicious applications to access extensive privileges, seriously compromising the system.
Two other major flaws touched the iOS nucleus, the very heart of the system. One allowed total control of the device, the other authorized the execution of unauthorized code. These fixes make this update an imperative.

To install iOS 18.3, go to Settings > General > Software update. In parallel, Apple is already working on iOS 18.4which could give Siri new analytical capacities.
