Apple would have abandoned its augmented reality glasses project
Competition between Meta and Apple will not be done in the field of augmented reality: according to sources close to the file, Apple has abandoned his augmented reality glasses plans After his team dedicated to headphones encountered performance problems. In addition, the design of the project has been changed many times, without success. Thus, this model will never see the light of day.
The purpose of these glasses (whose code name is N107) was to look like classic glasses, but with integrated screens allowing users to interact with the world around them, augmented reality. No virtual reality or mixed reality therefore: Apple would have entered into direct competition with The Meta Orion project unveiled a few months ago. To enhance its glasses, Apple first plans to integrate a feature allowing to connect them to an iPhone. But quickly, concerns about the treatment power and the autonomy of the iPhone battery (when coupled with glasses) made production more difficult to succeed.
To counter this concern, Apple envisaged the possibility of couple the glasses to a Mac (more powerful processor, more efficient battery). But ultimately, the glasses displayed poor performance, which prompted the development team to make new modifications in terms of design but also the functionalities envisaged for the device. And finally, the many difficulties having touched the project ended up being right for him. This week, Apple decided to abandon the idea, and the expected competition with Meta will not take place. It remains to be determined whether this decision will also impact the market for mixed or virtual reality with the American giant.
