Buffy against vampires: a cult series reboot in preparation with Sarah Michelle Gellar

“At each generation, there is an elected official” And obviously, the time has come for a new generation to meet a new killer. Indeed, the American Hulu streaming platform (belonging to Disney) is about to order the pilot episode of a series of the series Buffy against vampires.

This “revival” of the original series broadcast between 1997 and 2003 could even count on the participation of Sarah Michelle Gellar, eternal Buffy Summers.

The return of the vampire killer

Created by Joss Whedon according to the 1992 film of the same name, the cult series Buffy against vampires was entitled to seven seasons seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar embodied the elected fighter vampires, demons and other forces of evil tormenting the small town of Sunnydale. All three, as well as Gellar, will also be executive producers.

The reboot of Buffy is described as the next chapter of Buffyverse and Deadline Stresses that beyond the pilot's order, a writing room will soon be assembled, suggesting that Hulu and the studios associated with the project (20th Television and Searchlight TV) have faith in the viability of this new series.

Unsurprisingly, Joss Whedon is not associated with this reboot: the screenwriter/director was accused in 2021 to have a toxic behavior on the set of series Buffy and his spin-off Angel And hasn't worked in Hollywood since.

It is not yet known whether other members of the original distribution of Buffy will be part of this new version. To tell the truth, Gellar refused for a long time to participate in such a project, until it changes its opinion last year.

“It's fun, I have always refused because this series is so perfect,” said the actress in a Interview last December. “But looking at Sex and the City and Dexter, and realizing that there is a way to bring a series back, I said to myself 'why not'.”

The actress made her words when she was promoting Dexter: The originsseries derived from Dexter in which she holds a secondary role and who therefore changed his mind regarding a possible return of Buffy.
