OM System doubles stabilization of its new 100-400 mm!
Between new optics and cosmetic developments to make the Olympus mention disappear, OM System today announces an evolution of important optics. The evolution is called M.zuiko 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS II, a version II which should bring a big boost to the quality of the images, without changing the optical formula.
The lenses are indeed all preserved, the brand's opticians having renewed the previous formula. The only improvement in the optical point of life: the addition of a fluorine coating on the front lens to improve its waterproofing. The optics remain certified IPX1 and will therefore be able to collect the rain – one of the factory brands of OM System.
Double stabilization
Appreciated for its optical quality of good performance, this equivalent 200-400 mm (in equivalent 24×36) had a weakness in its first iteration. Namely 3 -speed optical stabilization. If this is correct from a purely optical point of view, the reality is that all modern telephotal zooms are now better off (4 or even 5 speeds). And that they can also synchronize optical stabilization to stabilization of the sensor to further improve their performance.
OM System opticians have therefore not only replaced the stabilization mechanism, but they also equipped it with electronics allowing it to discuss with the sensor stabilization mechanism (SYNC IS).
The result promised by the brand speaks of itself: when the first version of the zoom offered only 3 speeds to all focal lengths, this version II is much better. Optical stabilization alone is 50 % more efficient, with compensation of 4.5 speeds alone. But in addition, thanks to the SYNC IS, the combined stabilization ranges from 7.0 speeds to the 100mm position, at 5.5 speeds in 400mm. Clearly: in a situation given at the end of a zoom, when you were only net at 1/200th of a second, you will now be clear around 1/30th or 1/40th. What clearly limit the waste rate caused by your tremors!
In addition to this important progress, the foot frame once impossible to withdraw when the objective was set on the case is now removable in this case. And (mini) cherry on the cake, the new version of the optics is 25g lighter since it weighs only 1.3 kg.
The M. Zuiko 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS II of OM System will be available during the month at € 1,499.
