The company Phantom has just unveiled a new high speed camera, the T2110. It is equipped with a backlit BSI CMOS sensor displaying a definition of 1280 x 800 pixels, slightly more than HD resolution. Each pixel is enormous and measures 18.5 µm! For comparison, 1 pixel of the sensor that equips the new Canon Eos R5 II measure 4.39 µm. The T2110 sensor measures 23.7 x 14.8 mm, which corresponds to APS-C format.

High speed obliges, the rate of acquisition is extremely high, with a mode of 21,010 images per second in 1280 x 800 pixels and up to 483 330 images per second in 1280 x 32 pixels or 640 x 64 pixels, thanks to the Pixel-Binning function (fusion of pixels). To succeed in working in these rates, you have to access extremely short shutter speeds. Here, we are talking about 1.1 µs (microsecond), or even 190 ns (nanosecond) with an optional external module. Of course, this is an electronic shutter system and the sensor incorporates global shutter technology (Global Shutter), as on the Sony A9 III.

The recording durations are also very limited. Count 8 seconds at most with the highest pace, in 12 bits for a definition of 1280 x 800 pixels. This recording period is reached only with maximum internal storage capacity, namely 256 GB (internal ROM).
The T2110 is offered as standard in Nikon F Reflex frame, but can be adapted to other frames on the market, such as Canon Eos Reflex, Ciméa PL mount and the C or M42 mounts.
This new high speed camera is a tool designed mainly for scientific research and industry. It makes it possible to make extremely powerful slow motion of ultra-fast actions. There are other models from Phantom, with less extreme rates and higher definitions that are also used in the advertising world. The price of the T210 is not public.
