Netatmo finally decided to renew his surveillance cameras, or at least his intelligent interior camera for the moment. Of course, we will not be able to tax the French planned obsolescence company. She even did everything possible to bring her cameras as far as possible by regularly adding new features in the past 10 years – the interior camera has been launched in 2015, under the name Welcome -, but technical limitations the now prevent going further to stay competitive on the market. Netatmo therefore launches the interior camera Advance, even if the old model remains for the time being in the catalog. It should be offered cheaper, and even reconditioned with the recovery offer that will be set up, but let's focus on the new model and its functionalities for the time being.

A minimalist and modular design

The Advance interior camera inaugurates a whole new design, which Netatmo wished both minimalist and robust. The camera itself holds in a small cylinder and stands on a finest foot, if not at its base. With its mainly aluminum construction, the camera is well in place when placed on a piece of furniture, but it can also be fixed to the wall or the ceiling. A ball joint allows you to adjust the viewing angle manually.

Netatmo has also provided some accessories, one of which is to embed it in a wall outlet. A POE (Power Over Ethernet) adapter is also offered for users preferring a wired connection (with power supply by the same cable), the Advance camera natively supporting WiFi, in 2.4 and 5 GHz. Bluetooth is also offered to facilitate pairing.

2K and artificial intelligence to limit alerts

As for the features, the new Advance camera ultimately does not bring much again, since the previous models were already very complete, but it joined a new sensor which allows it to film in 2K. An appreciable increase compared to the full HD of previous models, even if the market is already underway towards 4K. The new sensor must in any case allow, according to the manufacturer, to take advantage of a 16x digital zoom and is accompanied by an optics offering a large field of 130 °. An HDR mode is also added to fight against the day for example, and there is of course an infrared vision for the night.

The images are recorded on a microSD card when the camera detects a movement and, to optimize the space as much as to limit alerts, the camera can more specifically detect people or animals and recognize faces thanks to artificial intelligence. As always with Netatmo, the analysis is done directly on the device and no cloud offer is also offered: the images remain locally. They are also encrypted. In order to preserve the privacy of users as well, Netatmo has planned a confidentiality component which can open and close automatically thanks to facial recognition and the geolocation of associated phones. A microphone and a speaker are finally provided for bidirectional audio, and the camera can be associated with the Netatmo mermaid to dissuade the intruders.

Apple Home compatible, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, Netatmo's new camera will be available from February 19 at the recommended price of € 249.99. It is delivered with an 8GB microSD card allowing the manufacturer to keep up to 3 months of safety records, and a recovery offer is provided for owners of an intelligent interior camera. The latter can be exchanged for a discount of € 50 and Netatmo undertakes to recondition it to put it on sale.
