This is not a novelty: we have known for a long time that Apple has been working on personal robots. In a post on X (ex-Twitter), Ming-Chi Kuo thus announces that according to him, the unique robotic products of Apple are still in the first phases of development and are at the stage of proof of concept (POC). Apple is concerned at the moment in the way users can interact with their robots rather than their design. In doing so, the product should take some time before reaching the mass production stage.

Mass production from 2028?

“”While the industry is debating the advantages of humanoid conceptions compared to non-humanoids, the supply chain checks indicate that Apple attaches more importance to the way users perceive robots rather than their appearance physical. Thus, Apple favors an anthropomorphic approach rather than humanoid, which implies that the hardware and detection software constitute key technologies“Begins Kuo on X. As a reminder, anthropomorphism corresponds to the attribution of characteristics of human behavior or morphology to other entities. For example, Sonic is an anthropomorphic video game character.

But then, what date can we wait for such a project? According to Kuo, “The deadline between the concept proof phase (POC) and the official launch varies. Given current progress and usual development cycles, the mass production of Apple robots should probably not start before 2028 or later. Interestingly, Apple was unusually opened by sharing part of its research in robotics from the early phase of POC, possibly in order to attract talent“. Patience will be a mother of virtue to discover more about this project.
