Windows 10: Microsoft imposes this mail application and no one appreciates it

Regulars of Windows 10 had an unpleasant surprise after the last update KB5051974: a brand new outlook application won without warning. Microsoft has decided to oust traditional email and calendar in favor of this revisited version. The catch? This messaging client accumulates faults.

The Outlook application imposed on Windows 10: between transition to cloud and advertisements

The first returns are clear: this outlook grinding grips. On forums, like Redditthe grievances are raining. Many denounce a slower software than its predecessor, an increased interface and a reactivity at half mast.

Another source of annoyance: email management. Unlike the old application that allowed local storage, this version requires going through Microsoft's cloud. A questionable choice for confidentiality enthusiasts. In order not to fix anything, advertisements come to interfere in the middle of emails, a shame for an application supposed to improve the user experience.

A forced installation that does not pass

But what is most angry is the way Microsoft has deployed his new toy. No authorization request, no option to refuse installation. The program is essential via Windows Update, arousing the ire of some.

To prevent the automatic installation of the new outlook on Windows 10, several solutions have been found, such as the Bloatynosy 1.10.1 tool, which deletes the application directly. One of them also consists in modifying the Windows register. By accessing the register editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTware \ Microsoft \ Windowsupdate \ Orchestrateur \ USCHEDULER_OOBE. Create a new chain value called blockedoobeupdaters and attribute the data [“MS_Outlook”].

Alternatives that are worth the detour

Fortunately, there are options for those who refuse to comply with Microsoft dictates. Thunderbird, of Mozilla, robust and customizable, remains a safe bet, or emailspring, and its sleek design. Without forgetting open-source customers, such as Evolution or K-9 Mail, who guarantee total control over data. These are of course only examples among others.
