Dacia Spring: First info on the replacement of the affordable electric car
If Renault already hopes to democratize the electric car with its new R5 and his next Twingothe manufacturer also plans to replace the current Dacia Spring, even more accessible but which has lost a lot of attractiveness. It must be said that its development is aging and that its production in China now prohibits it from access to the ecological bonus in France.
On the occasion of the publication of the company's results in the year 2024, Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, gave initial information on the next Dacia electric mini-city. Already, we learn that it will always be positioned in the A segment and that the Spring will therefore not be replaced by the future Electric Sandero (segment B). In addition, Luca de Meo has announced that the next generation of the Spring will be produced in Europe, which will allow him to overcome the compensatory customs duties established by the EU against the models assembled in China.
The next Spring should share part of its development with the future electric Twingo, expected in 2026 at a basic rate of less than € 20,000 excluding bonuses. The latter follows a new faster development process and part of its design has been relocated to China. We also know that it will be equipped with an LFP pack, cheaper to produce, and that it will bet more on its efficiency than on the capacity of its battery.
A rate of less than € 18,000 at the entry level
For the Future Spring, Luca de Meo announces a rate of less than € 18,000 at the entry level, a difference of barely € 2,000 compared to the basic rate of the next Twingo. As a comparison, the current Spring is sold from € 16,900, but is not eligible for the ecological bonus, which could be the case for its second generation if this aid will remain topical until its marketing. We also hope that the Spring replacement has a more serious technical sheet than the current model, which only develops 45 hp at the entry level.
It will take more than two years before the next Dacia Spring came into production. It will face Chinese competition that develops quickly. Currently, Leapmotor already offers a mini-taradin at just under € 18,000, the T03, particularly well equipped for its price.
