WithThe beta of iOS 18.4Apple tackles an annoying problem for conductors equipped with XXL screens: the limited display of Carplay. From now on, a third row of icons appears on certain models, making the interface more practical and better suited to current trends.
Carplay improves with the first beta of iOS 18.4
So far, Carplay has displayed two rows of icons on the car screen. Now, with iOS 18.4, a third row is available. This evolution allows Carplay to fully exploit the space of large screens, which improves readability and makes navigation more fluid, avoiding having to juggle with several pages of applications.
So good news, even if this feature is not yet accessible on all vehicles. It is only deployed on those with larger screens (such as Toyota Tundra, according to first returns across the Atlantic) with its 14-inch screen. It remains to be seen what the exact adoption threshold of this novelty will be.
Others (small) innovations identified within iOS 18.4
In addition to this improvement for Carplay, the beta of iOS 18.4 introduces several other additions. We note the appearance of priority notifications, managed by Apple Intelligencewhich make it possible to better organize important alerts. Apple also offers the possibility of defining a default translation application, as well as a navigation application for European users, in accordance with the new regulations of Digital Markets ACT.
The control center has also been improved with the addition of several sound atmospheres, such as “Chill” or “Sleep” options, creating a more personalized and pleasant atmosphere depending on the moments of the day. Another interesting addition, but not available in France, the new “food” section in the Apple News+application, which offers recipes and culinary items.
Finally, note the Cupertino firm has refined the launch calendar of iOS 18.4 and its equivalents on iPad and Mac. The next iPhone update, which will bring Apple Intelligence to FranceEast now expected in early April 2025.
