Samsung announces the 9100 Pro, its first SSD PCIe 5.0 and up to 8 to storage
It is in a press release posted on the Indian version of its official press site that Samsung Unveiled without drum or trumpet on the 990 pro, a new generation of ultra-fast SSDs, resolutely intended for advanced users. The transition to the PCIe 5 standard translates into crazy speed promises, up to 14,800 MB/s in reading and 13,400 MB/s in sequential writing, just that. Several storage sizes will be offered: 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB and finally 8 TB of storage, a first for the firm.
Who says PCIe 5.0 generally says high temperatures, and it is without surprise that the 990 Pro – like the 990 Pro, once again – will offer a version with on -board thermal dissipator, with 8.8 mm thick for the 1 TO modules and 4 TB, and 11.25 mm for its penchant 8 TB. This is the minimum to correctly cool such a beast and guarantee stable performance (as well as its lifespan) over the long term.
What about the price? For the moment, only the prices charged in India have been indicated, but a quick conversion of Indian rupees in euros indicates prices around € 169 (1 TB), € 279 (4 TB) and € 549 (8 TB). A price segment lower than that of the 990 pro … without counting on the European surcharge which will not fail to raise the final note. The release date of these three versions is set for March 18 in India, pending concrete information for France. As for version 8 TB, it is only expected to be current 2025.
