The iPhone 16th is Apple's little revolution at the start of 2025, with a model with the essentials of the iPhone 16 at a price 250 € cheaper. This does not prevent him from surpassing him on certain points, and especially that of autonomy thanks to the Apple C1. This 5G modem admits as efficient as that of Qualcomm on board the models released at the start of the 2024 school year!

Apple C1 clearly up to the usual iPhone 5G modems

Ookla published a study C1 of the Apple C1 of theiPhone 16th At the iPhone 5G Modem 5G Qualcomm. In details, the network performance of the two components were analyzed on the three main American operators.

We discover a painting sharing the test results according to three levels of performance: 10ᵉ centile, median, and 90ᵉ centile. In the first category, where connectivity is difficult and where the download speeds are low, the Apple C1 dominates the Qualcomm modem (27.35 MB/s against 16.66 MB/s).

At the median level, the advantage is again to the component of the iPhone 16th, with flows of 217.64 MB/s against 210.55 MB/s. The black point remains for the 90th centile, which leaves the advantage to theiPhone 16 and its 5G Qualcomm modem (757.13 MB/S VS 560.4 MB/s).

A notable difference therefore, but still nuanced by Ookla: “The lowest 10th centile performance often gives a more precise image of the quality of global experience (QOE) than the fastest 90th centile, which can be distorted by deployments in places covered by millimeter waves (mmwave) and which is subject to decreasing marginal yields”.

It is indeed important to emphasize that MMWAVE technology, delivering ultra-rapid connection speeds, is limited to Qualcomm 5G modems. Rumors still emphasize that this Apple disadvantage should quickly be filled. The generation ofiPhone 18 would effectively introduce the second generation modem (C2), with MMWAVE support.

As a reminder, this 5G technology is still limited to the United States, and simply tested in some European countries because of the high infrastructure cost. It is also important to emphasize that this connection offers less good stability and limited coverage, where operators of the old continent prefer to opt for something more stable, 5G Sub-6 GHz.
