Recently, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) declared that Google enjoys an illicit monopoly, while providing a list of measures to be taken to limit this domination of the internet. The editor-in-chief of John Mickelthwait therefore took the opportunity to raise the subject with former President Donald Trump. The latter was then able to express his dissatisfaction with the treatment of information by the American giant on its internet search site.

Trump touches on the dismantling of Google

Google has a lot of power. This is very bad for me. Very, very bad for me, I can speak from that point of view. They only have bad stories to tell about me. If I have 20 good stories and 20 bad stories, Google only shows the 20 bad ones. I called the boss of Google the other day and told him that I had a lot of good stories recently, but they couldn't be found on Google. I believe this is all fake. I think Google is rigged, just like our government is rigged” Donald Trump was able to respond about Google.

So obviously, the corollary question was quite obvious: should we dismantle Google, to stop its monopoly on the market? This is exactly what journalist Mickelthwait asks Donald Trump, who then responds: “I would do something. But I have to give them credit: they have become such a force. How they became so powerful is the discussion we have. At the same time, it is very dangerous because we want to have big companies. We don't want China to own these big companies. Right now, China is afraid of Google. China is a group of very intelligent and very powerful people, I can tell you this from my personal experience“, before being cut off by the American journalist.

He nevertheless continues on this subject: “I'm not a fan of Google: they treat me badly. But if you do that (dismantle Google), will you destroy the company? […] we need to strengthen our media because our media is corrupt“. Overall, Donald Trump didn't really answer the initial question about the potential dismantling of Google to counter its monopoly on the market, but he obviously wants to.”do something“. Last August, Trump was able to warn the firm (“Google needs to be careful“), indicating that he had “the feeling that Google was about to be shut down“. Donald Trump's vice-presidential candidate, JD Vance, called for a dismantling of Google last February.
