Last February, Apple canceled its Apple Car projectthis after almost a decade. More than 2000 people worked on this project, also called Project Titan: its cancellation caused numerous more or less forced departures of the company (certain workers having been able to be transferred to other departments of the firm). In total, more than 10 billion dollars were used on this aborted project, and certain collaborations between Apple and other companies will therefore never see the light of day. This is particularly the case of the collaboration between BYD and Apple, which we are discovering today.

BYD and Apple worked together before Project Titan was canceled

BYD is today one of the electric car manufacturers benefiting from strong growth on the market, in particular thanks to preferential prices compared to Western vehicles. According to a Bloomberg report, the Chinese firm worked with Apple on a special battery intended for the famous Apple Car, starting in 2017. The objective of the battery in question was to significantly increase the autonomy of the car, while offering better safety compared to usual electric car batteries.

AThus, BYD's role was precisely to take care of production, while Apple took care of design and testing internally. With the project now canceled, many people involved in its creation were able to share their experience on this subject: according to them, the idea of creating a car gained momentum in 2014 at Apple, and the firm at the time Apple first started talking with Tesla, Mercedes-Benz & Volkswagen for a partnership. FINALLY, BYD managed to convince Apple thanks to its Blade batteries: Apple bosses were impressed by the capabilities of the technology and decided to trust the Chinese firm. Ultimately, the project is now dead and buried: we will therefore not see an Apple car on our streets anytime soon.
