And after a great collaboration with Netflixthe screenwriter and director is preparing to join the streaming platform Prime Video for a new series adapted from a horror classic.

A new adaptation of Stephen King

For his next creation, Mike Flanagan will indeed tackle a monument since it is nothing less than the novel Carrie by Stephen King, in the form of a mini-series.

The screenwriter and director thus rediscovers the universe of the North American author to whom he is very close, having already carried his novels Doctor Sleep And The Life of Chuck on screen.

Mike Flanagan will be the showrunner and producer (alongside Melinda Nishioka) of this future series Carriecurrently in development at Amazon MGM. This is presented as “a bold and auspicious reinvention” by the studio. Note that although the project is well under way, it has not yet received the green light to go into production.

The novel Carriepublished in 1974, was the very first in the career of the legendary Stephen King, who would later establish himself as a master of horror and fantasy with his numerous works, such as Salem (1975), Shining, the child of light (1977), Simetierre (1983) or even That (1986).

As a reminder, Carrie tells the story of Carrie White, a shy and lonely teenager who endures the incessant teasing of her classmates and the religious upbringing of her mother. One day, the young girl discovers strange telekinetic powers.

The novel was notoriously adapted in 1976 by Brian de Palma into a film that became cult. A sequel, titled Carrie 2: hatredwas released in cinemas in 1999 before a remake in 2013 with Chloë Grace-Moretz in the title role.

No release date has been announced for this series yet, but The Digitals will obviously keep you informed.
