With Project Jarvis, Google is preparing to control Chrome for you
The name “Jarvis” is certainly not chosen at random. Fans of Marvel comics & films will have grasped the reference directly: it is the artificial intelligence assisting Iron Man, aka Tony Stark. If this Google version of Jarvis will not help you fly over cities and fire rockets from your arm, it should nevertheless offer one of the functionalities of the original JARVIS: that of an improved assistant capable of carrying out boring tasks for you. At least, that's how Google characterizes it.
“Jarvis? Buy me this plane ticket please!”
But then, what is Jarvis? According to various sources, this assistant would be able to perform simple actions for you in Google Chrome. This implies, for example, the possibility of purchasing a product online (a plane ticket, an item on Amazon, etc.) or even filling out a form, without requiring any human intervention. In other words, artificial intelligence takes complete control. This reminds us a recent announcement from Anthropic about Claude…
Note that Jarvis would only work with Chrome: it was designed with the firm's browser and will therefore only be available on it. So don't think about trying to import it to Firefox just yet. On the other hand, Jarvis is not yet ready to be deployed everywhere and remains, for the moment at least, a simple Google project. Indeed, according to TheInformation's report on the matterthe model is still relatively slow at present, requiring several seconds before performing each action, even if the latter turns out to be relatively simple. This also means that Jarvis is cloud-based, rather than drawing its power directly from the device that uses it.
If rumors are to be believed, Jarvis should be officially presented in December, which would actually coincide with the launch of Gemini 2.0. However, its accessibility is still uncertain: for example, it could be restricted only to users of Google's premium artificial intelligence service, Gemini Advanced.
